Women’s month is coming to end. Personally, I don’t like having only one month dedicated to marginalized groups, it shamelessly exemplifies the supremacy that exists in our society. But as we reach the last week of it, I thought I’d share my thoughts.

Woman.

I watched and observed every woman close to me. I witnessed strength, patience, rage, empowerment, independence and compassion. I watched their rights stripped away by their men. I watched them rise up and fight back for their rights.

Rise and fall and rise again.

Woman. One taught me to love selflessly, but I never saw benefits to that type of love. To love selflessly, you lose yourself, your worth and remain a shadow of another person. One taught me to pause, reflect and question my individual existence in this world, and I thank her, because she embodied empowerment. Someone who knows her worth and will walk miles to find her peace in this world.

But the thing is, this woman saw the fall of the woman she once looked up to. With pain and sadness, she saw the woman selflessly striving to get back up, and try to fight for her rights once again.

Rage. Relentless.

In the end, she just sold her soul for a little bit of silence and peace, and hope for the little girl she was raising.

Rise and fall and rise again.

Woman. Each woman that is able to walk with her head held up high, is able to do so, either because of a woman she lost or another woman who helped her rise up and use her voice.

Woman.
